The Me Tree School for Schools focuses on an integrated approach that promotes resilience and building positive self-concept both within and outside the classroom. There are components of the program that can be undertaken at home and promote involving parents in their child's journey.
ME TREE HOME PACK
All students will receive a Me Tree pack that is to be sent home. The contents of the pack include one large Me Tree poster, a parent guide, prompt stickers (for parents) and a Kids Journal. This pack is intended to last a student from Prep through Year 6, unless it is lost or damaged and needs replacing.
ROLE OF PARENTS
The role of parents during the program is two fold:
1) Identify one golden attribute of their child per term. These are written on the child’s poster.
2) Help their child through tough situations using the tools in their pack.
When problems arise at school, the Me Tree for Schools offers a solution that comes from the student (with support from the parent). If a teacher is made aware of a problem their student is having, they are encouraged to make a time with the student and parent(s) and ask the student to come with a ‘tough situation’ journal sheet completed. Teachers are encouraged to validate and sympathise with what the child is experiencing then review the solutions the child has come up with and build on those where necessary.
Teachers can also ask if there is anything they can do to support the student with their plan. This approach empowers the student to embrace tough situations realising they have the skills to overcome them.

WHEN PARENTS DON'T COME TO THE TABLE
In any school, there are likely to be some parents who won’t come on board with a program like The Me Tree for Schools. These will be the vulnerable families where there is a lot going on behind the scenes such as mental health issues, substance use, abuse, divorce and custody battles. In their staff training teachers will be equipped with strategies to manage such situations.
